What morning will bring
Some thoughts, while working a column for tomorrow's paper:
When did we become so tolerant of intolerance? Is it a backlash against political correctness, or something far more deeply rooted - and troubling?
Consider the cries of racism toward any black man who admits voting the color of his skin, as if the historical plight of African Americans in this country should suddenly not matter anymore. As if discrimination doesn't exist anymore.
In California, the debate over Proposition 8 challenged that idea head on. Arguing the merits of gay marriage is one thing, and both sides had legitimate points to raise. Where it turned ugly was when it became a referendum on homosexuality, exposing an intolerance that even conservatives claimed we'd gotten beyond.
Voices from the left were no less divisive, ignoring Sarah Palin's own march toward history and allowing flagrant sexism to become part of mainstream discussion.

OK…Now What? A Bucket Full of Questions Await Answers
What has America done to herself? Has she elected a President that is now poised to make the Carter years seem like child’s play? Does anyone remember those times and how long it took America to recover and heal herself after these four years? Now, so many campaign promises have been made to so many Americans that heard them, but were they really listened to. Will any be fulfilled? Can any be fulfilled?
Will this Nation’s economy be fixed? Will those ELECTED officials who are directly responsible for the economic downturn or crash be held accountable by their Party or by those who elected them?
Will this prolonged war be quickly resolved with honor and regard to those who served and gave America all there was for them to give? Will the respect now given to those serving remain tomorrow… as it is given today? Will our military remain on the cutting edge of technology and at levels to ensure not only the freedoms enjoyed by each American, but also with those nations where our assistance ensures piece and prosperity there as well? Will America continue to have the technological advantage in defending herself regardless of where her assets are positioned throughout the world?
Will our national debt be resolved all the while giving 95% of Americans a “measurable” tax break? Will there truly be no new taxes for the majority?
Will our Southern Boarder issue now be satisfactorily resolved? Will American citizenship be honored and respected…and EARNED not given? Will those individuals who are here illegally and who are putting such a strain on all public services to include our education systems, be respectively yet positively dealt with?
Will GOD find its way back into our way of life? Will it now be acceptable to pray in public, in our schools, to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, to sing God Bless America? To say without fear, “In God We Trust”?
Will the true will of the American People be heard? Will the union of a man and a women be recognized and defined as marriage? Will all our courts interpret the laws of our land and not practice them? Will politics not find itself into the Supreme Court?
Will the hollowed Social Security System be preserved and not plundered? Will steps be taken to ensure ALL those who pay into it receive the expected return of their investment? Will the decision makers realize that to receive the fruits of this system, you first must legally give into this system and not be eligible just because you are of age? Will citizenship be a factor?
Will the citizens of America now assimilate into the American culture and/or the American way of life, accept our free ways of living and stop trying to change or interject the way of life or culture from which they fled? Will or can they now recognize that way of life will not work here nor is it welcome? Will focus now be placed on building America and not on changing America? Can America be recognized for being America and not for trying to change it to what is found outside our boarders? Can America today be recognized because of what is found here, not what is found or copied from other lands elsewhere? Time will tell.
