Toliver's loose wheel

| | Comments (0) |

Expect anything in drag racing, even if it's a Funny Car losing a wheel during a run.
Such was the case for veteran Jerry Toliver, who had his left wheel come off during a qualifying run against Ashley Force.
Toliver experienced some engine problems near half track. The rear end of the car buckled as it spun the tires, and soon the wheel came off, bounced across the left lane, missing Force's Ford Mustang, before bouncing down the track. Toliver's E.T. was over five seconds. I'm not sure what the wheel ran.
"I just tried to keep it in the middle of the race track and keep it off the wall and hurt it worse than it already is," said Toliver of the incident, which was caused when the mounting studs sheared off. "That's why these cars need experienced drivers because things happen and when they do you've got to be ready to react to them."
