The race for the Pro Stock Motorcycle championship is between Hector Arana and Eddie Krawiec, but veteran Karen Stoffer took some of the luster away from that battle after taking the top spot during the first day of qualifying at the season-ending Auto Club NHRA Finals at Fairplex.
Stoffer, who began the weekend seventh in points, blew down the Pomona quarterfinal in 6.982 seconds at 191.70 mph to grab the provisional top qualifying position. Arana, who is nearly three rounds ahead of Krawiec, is second at 6.99.
Karen Stoffer: "I don't think one qualifying pass says anything. Time will tell. We'll know after the next three passes."
