Auto Club Finals Day 1: Pro Stock: It's over...or is it?

Above: Mike Edwards all but clinched his first Pro Stock championship
Thursday.

Mike Edwards will be the NHRA Pro Stock champion.
It's just not official yet.
The veteran drove to the top spot on the first day of qualifying at the Auto Club Finals at Fairplex to all but sew it up. It won't become official until qualifying is finished on Saturday.
Edwards took the provisional pole with a 6.637-second run at 209.46 mph. Greg Anderson is second at 6.647 with Rodger Brogdon third at 6.648.
Edwards, by taking the provisional top spot, moved 140 points ahead of Anderson, who is second in points. and with only 135 points available during the weekend .... well, you do the math.
But it's not official until qualifying points are awarded Saturday night.
"It's officially, officially not done, I guess," Edwards said. "It is, but it isn't.
"I don't think I could spit before that run. I've been doing this a long time, but never been this close to living my dream. It's pretty special."
