It just isn't fair, or 'American' Beauty

"American Idol" has come under fire for turning a blind eye to racy photos purported to be of contestant Antonella Barba. Apparently, years ago another contestant got booted for a similar discovery.

AntonellaBarba.jpg There's been no confirmation that the steamy shots are of Barba, but if they are, something is definitely awry.

No doubt this hubub has Ms. Barba crying herself to sleep every night, ruining her perfect makeup job. She probably now thinks twice before frolicking in fountains or posing in glamour shots. If that's the America we're headed for, it's an America that's lost its way.

Reality TV claims to feature real people - and real people sometimes have skeletons in their closets. And some people have super-hot skeletons. But if we deny them the chance to compete, we deny the premise of the show itself.

So let's think about this long and hard, America. It was Jesus who said "let he who has no sin cast the first stone." And, to be honest, who amongst us hasn't frolicked in a fountain once in a while? Oddly enough, though, no one seems interested in those pictures.
