Heritage Square approved, negotiations with Fair Oaks PAC set to begin

PASADENA – In a unanimous decision, the Pasadena City Council approved the Heritage Square project and the community benefits agreement that leaders in Pasadena have been clamoring for in the wake of recent failures to employ city residents on public projects, according to city officials.
The approval, Monday, paves the way for a community group to begin substantive negotiations with the developer Bridge Housing Corp., officials said.
A tentative agreement for 20 percent local hiring, 20 percent local subcontracting and a 20 percent local procurement of materials on the project was reached in late August between the Bridge Housing Corp. and the Heritage Square Working Group, a community coalition formed to push the project to completion.
The Fair Oaks Project Area Committee will head the upcoming negotiations with Bridge Housing, according to Ishmael Trone, PAC chairman.
The negotiations won’t stop at local hiring, but will also press for provisions that assure Pasadena seniors a chance to reside in the senior living facility.
