Vile and Despicable

Another reader reacts:
Patrick O'Connor's vile and despicable cartoon of Thursday Dec. 6, depicting sevicemen gleefully "torturing" Santa Claus was not just a commentary on the policy, but and obvious full frontal attack on our brave servicemen and women. While I do not believe that "waterboarding" is torture, O'Connor certainly does, and to have drawn the soldier smiling at the prospect of "torturing" Santa makes O'Connor's message crystal clear.
Furthermore, for the Daily News to run it makes me question their judgement. If O'Connor is not fired over this I will cancel my subscription.

Again, I’m amazed at what people choose to fixate on. All the problems going on in the world, yet people are outraged, OUTRAGED(!) about a cartoon featuring soldiers torturing Santa. What I wonder is, are they so upset because soldiers are depicted contemplating torture or because Santa is the one being tortured? Don’t f*ck with Santa! That’s over the line!! It’s kind of the US’s version of the whole Mohammed cartoon debacle a while back.
There's a long and honorable tradition of putting Santa to work in the salt-mines of contemporary politics. Outraged readers should feel free to cancel their subscriptions over the publication of a cartoon questioning certain forms of interrogation, but it has nothing to do with Santa -- leave the poor man out of it.
