Hey-oh!
How DO YOU DO? Octorazzi is going to tell you a little bed time story now, so sit back and relax, go get U-self a nice hot cup of cocoa, tea or a beer and put yous feets ups and pay close attention. Here we go!
Living in the place you work is such a kick sometimes, you see people you know all the time. And so MY STORY today is that Octorazzi RAN INTO Mr. Ed Doud, Octograndpa!
And he told me to let YOU know that he is very angry at the Life & Style story that just came out where they show photos of a messy house and some rather harsh comments made by Angela.
Ed told ME that most of the story was made up or taken out of context. (You click on the link above and read it and watch the video too!) Ed also said that THOSE PHOTOS of a messy home ARE NOT what Nadya and her children left BUT...
Since they have to move soon, they have been putting everything out on the floor and sorting through it to see what they can keep and what needs to be thrown out.
He admitted it one of the rooms and the garage looked messy but simply because they were and are still going through stuff. He said the rest of the home was very clean and he asks why didn't they show THAT! PLUS, he SAID he might take SOME KIND OF ACTION because the writer and photographer took the photos without their permission.
As the story goes, ED TOLD ME that he and Angela were running late to their appointment with the magazine (i.e. coming home later than expected from "somewhere," so ANGELA told them to make themselves at home through the back door which she had let open!!!
Needless to say, ED TELLS ME that they went ahead and took photos without HIS permission. He even told them that if they had taken photos prior to them being there, THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THEM.
In the mean time, ED is also very busy throwing A TON of stuff out like old toys, old sofas and the likes. He said it is stuff they had as they went from "home to home." He told Octorazzi that he has until Aug. 15th to vacate the home and that he will take the entire time cleaning it up. There is one heck of a HUGE trash container outside his home at this time that is being loaded up with all the stuff Ed does not need. He has asked for another extension on his trip back to the front lines because he just needs to finish cleaning up this home before he leaves.
Whaddaya THUNK of this little tid bit?
Until Next Time,
LATES!

Uh, but the pictures weren't the only thing that backed up the story. Angela was talking. I think that was Angela - OMG that explains why they were filming in a darkened room - it wasn't Angela.
And I wish ED would stay out the picture and at least pretend he is over there. LOL
Octorazzi, get some nice photos on Monday okay? Will Gloria be there or just Deily? We shall see.
I am not going to say whether his story is true or not. I will empty my mind of the latest pictures and what do I see, but another set of pictures, from an earlier time, of a house in the same disarray. In those pictures we saw the same food on the carpet and walls, magic marker on the doors and clothes and dirty toys strewn everywhere. I know there are families that live like that and think nothing of it. My best friend as a child, lived like that. But we were kids, who cared?
And hasn’t Angela told that story before? It happened while Octmom was in the hospital with the Octuplets. I’m too lazy to research the story.
And I have to something to say. For that house to be so dirty, it was not just 2 months in the hospital, it was 2 to 3 years living like that. And I am not going to blame Angela, Octomom and Grandpa should have helped keep it clean as well. Some discipline couldn’t have hurt either. Children should be taught to respect the blessings that they have, no matter how little.
And then, here we go again. Sue, sue, sue. Now we know where Octomom learned that phrase. Unbelievable, IMHO TYVM - Sorry Octorazzi, I can just hear Elvis saying that phrase. ‘My generation’s King’.
I totally agree Duggie! Those pictures didn't look too different from the earlier photos. Why isn't Angela getting all up in arms if they quoted her on some of the story? Regardless, the house should have been cleaned up months ago. I honestly think Nadya took a few things and walked out of the house. I wouldn't be surprised if the magazine did take some liberty to slant the story as they saw fit, because that is what those magazines do, but I think there was truth to the story.
Seriously. . .Why would you even invite the magazine to the house when it was in that condition? Why not meet elsewhere? What was the gist of the story suppose to be anyway? LOL I have never had an interaction with the tabloids and even I would know where they would go with a house in that condition. I wouldn't even let a stranger make themselves at home in my house if I wasn't there.
Ed to Nadya, "Hey, maybe we can make some money off this. . ."
Duggie, I had a friend like that as a child. Their house was a mess. They had five kids I think. You could barely walk down the hall. There were clothes piled everywhere. It was like one of those cluttered houses you see on Dr. Phil. We liked going there because their parents were so sweet and kind. If my parents knew the disarray of that house we would have never been allowed over there.
In truth, I wouldn't let my children go to house like that mainly because of the fire hazard it would present.
Lulu, you are certainly right. I don't think that people who live like that realize what they look like to the rest of the world until it is in print. But you are right. Those great big dollar signs blinded them.
And PS, my Mom was not pleased that Janie was my best friend either. Actually, she lived on a farm and Mom and I would get into it all the time. But then Janie's parents sold the land to a developer and they bought a beautiful house in Bethel. My Mom was so impressed that now she coud be my friend, but guess what, the house was in the same state just a few months later. To some people, a clean house is not important. But who am I to say, it's their life, not mine.
I am anal retentive when it comes to organization and clealiness. I admit that I am obsessed. My friends laugh at me but my co-workers loved me. I kept all our documentation up to date and the Computer Room was spotless for tours.
What was the point of Angela's story to the magazine? Well, here's a couple of thoughts...do you remember the magazine article by In Touch magazine? It was entitled, "Good mother or Mom From Hell!" That's not an exact quote of the title. I purchased this magazine because the pictures of the Suleman family were absolutely beautiful. After I read the article at home, I was puzzled...why did the Suleman's pose for these intimate photos if the article was going to be so critical of them? It didn't make sense. The tone of the photos and the tone of the article didn't match.
Later that day, I found the answer: The photos had been downloaded from Nadya's official website, then republished as the magazine's own! They didn't even give her credit, much less any payment! Then they wrote their article! They were trying to give the article credibility, like it was inside information, by using the stolen pictures. The pictures also would have raised the sales rate of the magazines, obviously. They flew off the stands near where I live.
I mention this because In Touch magazine and Life and Style magazine are owned by the same publishing company. Of course, the tone of all of their articles, in both magazines, will be pretty much the same. Just another lesson in not believing everything you read. If you're familiar with the term "yellow journalism," then you know what I mean.
When you see things like this, people making money off the octuplets without sharing a dime with the babies or their family, then Nadya's desire to make a trademark becomes more understandable. The trademark, or at least a solid copyright, would make requesting permission a requirement. When Nadya gives permission, it would be after negotiating a proper business arrangement. Of course, 15% would go into the children's Coogan accounts.
Having said all that in my previous post, I'll have to add that, in my opinion, Nadya is a con-artist. Up until the advent of the octuplets birth, she was a small time con artist. Now, she must get a crash course in the con-ing profession, or she'll get consumed by the Big Boys.
I can only base these opinions on what I've observed in the media. I feel that the parents are also con artists, in a very small time way. They may not know fully understand how they are being used by the Big Boys.
One problem with con artists is there's a kind of lack of loyalty. They go into the deals, or jobs, with certain expectations. If those expectations are unmet, they turn on each other in an attempt to recoup losses and to manipulate each other into paying up.
So it is with Nadya's family, in my opinion. I don't believe any loving mother, no matter how dysfunctional the family, would want to "dis" her daughter to an international audience. So there must be another reason. Here's my theory:
Angela supported Nadya and her growing family during the college years. In return, she was probably expecting Nadya to support her as she aged. The grandchildren would have helped take care of both mother and grandmother. But things haven't gone as expected. After making her investment of time and money, Nadya hasn't upheld her end of the deal. Angela has been left to take care of herself, without the future retirement/family caregiver (in Nadya the daughter) that Angela had hoped for in her golden years.
When you view Angela's interviews, and in the way she interacts in public with her daughter, in this light, they make a lot more sense. (It also sheds light on some of Nadya's comments about her mother.) When Angela complains of paying for so much and not getting enough in return, it sounds like an investor who's business failed to make revenue. She also competes with the children for attention from Nadya. She also wants to be involved so that she doesn't become forgotten about and to remain relevant in everyone's lives. In a way, she hasn't wanted Nadya to become TOO independent over the years because then she would lose her ability to control her daughter through her support of her daughter. This is definitely a co-dependent relationship that has been derailed. The mother and daughter are sooo much alike!
So Angela sits in a messy house and says, (my translation), "You clean this up. It's your job to take care of me. Through my own decisions, based upon my personal expectations, this is not for me to clean up." She also says, "You pay my mortgage. It's your job to take care of me. Through my own decisions, based upon my personal expectations, this is not for me to pay." She tops it all off with, "I'm an old lady with a bad back." (Not direct quotes in context. My opinions only.)
Do you see the similarity between mother and daughter?
Nadya sits in her situation and sends out basically the same message, complete with the injured back. Of course, I honestly believe both Angela and Nadya have injured their backs. I also believe they use the "bad back" issue to their advantage in various situations.
Meanwhile, Angela uses the interviews for money, as a manipulation tactic and to compete. She is counting on Nadya seeing the interviews. In her mind, it would be nice if things could go back to the way they were: Co-dependent mother and daughter, raising the children together, pooling their resources and living together, caring for each other. Possibly this is the way Angela's family was and it was the way Angela was raised. This would be the "repressed" background that Nadya is referring to in previous interviews with Radaronline. But Nadya obviously doesn't want to be tied down caring for sick, elderly parents. She loves her children and that is her focus. One day, Angela will most likely find herself in a nursing home with little family supervision, unless she lives long enough for her oldest grandchildren to step in and take Nadya's place as caregiver.
Meanwhile, the Big Boy con artists take full advantage of this scenario. They love it and they make money off of it, and they don't share a dime with the children. The slightly more honest ones will pay for the interviews. You can bet, Angela was paid well, just like she was before. But that was small change compared to what the magazine made in their profits. The airing of dirty laundry is good for business.
Okay,,,it's very difficult to explain co-dependency and con-artistry, with a dash of dysfunctional in a single post, without writing a book. I'm trying to keep from taking over the forum. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I can give examples that support my opinions and I can explain better.
I think it might be less conscious than what you are describing but other than that sounds plausible to me. One thing for sure, Nadya is a product of her upbringing.
On a side note, I find it very funny how people who rant and rave about how awful she is contribute to her popularity. One of her detractors mentioned how magazines with her on the cover flew off the shelves. That documentary will show overseas first but I bet it will end up being picked up here and it will get great ratings. People wait avidly for any bit of news no matter how small so it can be analysed for ammunition. They are not going to miss a one hour special on Nadya's history from her perspective. Imagine the material! And for a bonus everyone can see the all the kids growing older. After all, they have to watch to judge how the kids are doing and tsk tsk and exclaim that it's a wonder they're alive. Jon and Kate's "divorce" episode had record ratings because people want to watch trainwrecks.
Hey Octorazzi, you mean Ed is NOT in Iraq?
A report of Dr. Phil's and Oprah's ratings while involved with the Suleman family...
hhttp://www.variety.com/article/VR1118001044.html?categoryid=14&cs=1
It's funny when people call this a non-story that no one is interested in. Of course, the future Eyeworks documentaries will rake in plenty of interest, which translates into cash for Eyeworks.
Dr. Phil was not doing this out of kindness. His show was actually struggling for ratings until this good fortune rolled into his lap. Sadly, he also confirmed in the interview that Nadya wasn't paid. She got some gifts, freebies and donations, so I'm not saying this to garner sympathy.
I often wonder why the Child Labor folks haven't mentioned the Dr. Phil octuplets appearances. He took a camera crew in to film preemies, while they were still in the hospital! Those kids were underaged and I don't think the Dr. Phil show can be considered a news gathering organization. Were the babies compensated in a trust fund, since no Coogan account was in place yet? And then there are the still photos of the babies taken in hospital and published in magazines. Why was only Radaronline fined for violations?
And Ed is in Iraq, currently?
Actually, Dr. Phil doesn't pay any of his guests. He pays for everything else, flights, limos, hotel rooms, etc., but no paycheck for appearing on the show. The guests do get a gift. Nadya and her family were treated ok. But since the octuplets saved his tv career, I think he should make a deposit in their Coogan accounts.
TMZ should also make a deposit. Every time they criticize the Suleman family, they make money too.
Sharon-
Your comments on Nadya's and Angela's relationship is very insightful. There were several points you made that I hadn't thought about. Angela has to know that these tabloid magazine's want sensationalism and twist stories, so why would she even consider doing an interview? Some of your comments are right on target.
This whole family is good at manipulating. They are really no different than the tabloids!
So Ed has been saying he is going to Iraq now for about 5 months. He can keep getting extensions? Something sure does sound right there. I'd sure like to ask him he he has made that $100 stretch so far. haha
Sadly, I've seen it happen over and over again with generations of families. Will all the Suleman children turn out to work the system like mom and the grandparents? Let's hope not.
Nope, Ed is not in Iraq. He's 70 years old. What are the odds of a 70 year old going to Iraq? Maybe as a translator...hmmm. Ed is a very healthy 70 year old, apparently.
I think Ed would like to get away from all of this, but feels he must stay because his family needs him.
I've noticed in his previous appearances, he'll spout off a bit when he's very upset with his family. Or when he wants the paparazzi to leave him and his family alone. It seems to work, because whenever he says he's leaving, reports about him stop for awhile. Suddenly, he's back in the spotlight. After a short time, he says he's leaving and the cycle begins again...
Keep in mind that Ed is an immigrant. He may have family overseas somewhere, so he could go visit them, similar to the trip Angela took recently to Sweden. I live in a predominantly immigrant community. I've heard many of them claim to be going back home in a week or two, whenever they are feeling stressed out. But then they don't leave, which is fine with me. My neighborhood would be pretty empty without them.
Btw, much has been said about the Suleman family name. The spelling has changed over the years. Suleiman, Solomon, Suleman. Also, the first names of Ed and Nadya have changed. This is another common practice of immigrants. I know of an Indian cardiologist who uses the surname Vijay...but his Indian surname is much longer and has a "Krishna" in the middle of it. He's from India. His kids have dropped all the extra syllables and use the surname Vijay only. This is a current living example, but if folks want more, I suggest looking into ancestry.com and exploring family trees. There will be found many immigrants changing spellings of names after entering the nation. Many Russian and German names became shortened and phonetically mispelled. Asians have added English names to their surnames, or just changed the surname to make it easier for English speakers to pronounce.
You know what I think? Well, as long as you asked, I think what I've thought all along....."IF THEY'RE LIPS ARE MOVING.........."
You're right, Tessa, con artists shouldn't be trusted, at least not without understanding them first. Even then, one should tread very carefully.
Some are better at this than others. Many are Never caught. Others are. Most never pay restitution, even if they are caught.
The best punishment for cons is to beaten at their own game. That's when they are consumed by the Big Ones. This is happening to the Suleman family now. The kids won't wind up any better off, sadly. They'll have Coogan accounts, which is a silver lining, I spoze.
And Lulu, I hope the kids come out better too. Actually, I think they will. Call me an optimist, but this is no longer a doomed-to-repeat welfare family. There lives have been changed forever.
Your comment reminds me of my husband's nickname for politicians: "Lying Lip Flappers" *LOL*
There have been many times when the Suleman family has spoken the truth, or at least, the truth as they saw it at the time they spoke. But one has to understand the way con artists think and speak to know what they are about. I am not a professional or small time con myself. But like most folks, I have been on the wrong end of a con artist's food chain. So, I ordered some books from Amazon and studied up on them. I suggest this to everyone who wants to prevent being burned by con artists, like I was.
Many of us who are commenting and digesting the Suleman saga seem to think rationally. That is our mistake. . .LOL. . .Nadya doesn't think rationally (not to even mention the con/scam thing going)and we are equating our thinking and line of reasoning with hers.
Nadya is our in the media because of the birth of her 8 babies, but sadly this was going on long before the 8 were born. It is also going on in many household throughout the US, but just on smaller scales.
I too hope Sharon, that at least some of the Suleman children break the cycle. My husband has cousins who come from a very dysfunctional family who have always lived on the edge of the law. Out of the 8 children, two decided enough was enough, and in their mid teens broke away from their family to live as productive, contributing members of society. They did it on their own, and I wonder how some people can do this. What makes them different? Was it a teacher? Another parent? Something in the media? Hopefully these children will have that person int heir life, and at least they will have something to fall back on with these Coolgan accounts.
Just posted a few minutes ago on the NS site:
(snips of Simonae's/Cheyenne's post)
"These are criminals..We don't go around spreading smut like they do.."..."desperation suleman and her cult followers are feeling.."..."We are stronger in numbers than they will EVER be.."..."..."Where P.S. is concerned (oh was that "P" suppose to be a "B?") my mistake..."
"To buckle now would not be to your advantage. Remember? "Do NOT interrupt your enemy while he makes a mistake." (Napoleon) Believe me mistakes will be made. It's inevitable. You will have you pound of flesh..Just hang in there..."
Look at the wording in the above: Criminals,,,enemy,,,smut,,,references to war,,,pound of flesh,,,cult,,,dehumanizing statements,,,
This is extremely violent. This is hatred. Take note, it has no profanity. It doesn't need cuss words to make point.
Once more, I must choose to be a Nadya supporter because I will never, ever, join angry mob. I will always stand with people who never, ever lose their humanity, their compassion, their sense of priorities, their research of the facts and their thoughtful opinions.
It's fine to be angry, sad, disappointed, happy, grateful, and a whole range of emotions.
It's good to feel emotions.
Are people right to be angry with the Suleman family? Yes. Are they right to feel compassion for the Suleman family? Yes. How about any and every other emotion towards the Suleman family? Yes.
How about hurt the Suleman family emotionally and/or physically? NO! How about getting a "pound of flesh" out of someone who disagrees with your opinions about the Suleman family? No!
Justice will prevail. Stop the mob mentality. Stop the hate.
It's not just going on throughout the U.S., Lulu. It's also going on in the United Kingdom. I have an online friend in England who mentioned the burden illegal immigrants have been on their infrastructure. The citizens are also concerned about being taxed to provide health care benefits to the poor who have babies they can't afford, not to mention the public education for them and all. The recession hit their nation too.
I agree with you, Lulu.
I'm off for the day. I just want to thank the posters that have been on lately that are trying to have civilized discussions on the topic. We may not agree with every point that each other makes, but we are learning from each other in the process. Those civilized posters are clearly articulating why they feel as they do. Another reason I am interested in this hot topic is from the sociological/psychological aspect.
I just don't have time for the ranting and raging of some. It is too tiring to read. I'll check back later tonight EST!
Yea, I must go too. Chat with you and everyone else later!
Good Morning everyone, Late to bed, late to rise.
I'm glad to read that the tenor of the site has not reverted back. I just had 30 minutes of reading from some very insightful posts. And yes, I believe in the 'Big Boys' theory as well. Now that the dust has settled, we can finally see clearly.
In the beginning, Octomom had all the marbles. But she made one fatal mistake after another. Her first was to fire the Killien/Furtney Group that Kaiser Permanente provided for her. Yes I use to work for Kaiser and they did not get as big as they did without knowing how to play the game. They had some really major publicity crisis’s themselves. Ie, the pediatrician used in one of their commercials murdered his own children and they had the first case of the flesh eating disease (MSR). They had to come back from both of those major stories and that’s where these publicity firms come in. They know how to play with the ’Big Boys’. Remember, Octomom was a coupe for Kaiser as well. This was major medical news and they just happened to be the recipient of this windfall. Too, bad it turned out so wrong.
And yes, you are right about Angela. She is angry because Octomom did not listen to her when she told her not to implant all those embryos. At that point, Angela had lost her control over Octomom and she was pissed. And Octomom did exactly what a controlled child does, run as fast as she could when given the chance. Octomom still has her ‘training wheels’ on and still needs some emotional support from her mother, but soon she will be ‘weaned’ from Angela and will not even talk to her unless it is on Octomom’s terms. That’s why you see all the rants from Angela. She is in the death throes of losing control.
And with all that anger coming out of that family, they are so focused on hurting each other that they can not see the vultures surrounding them. They are slowly picking at the Suleman’s wounded flesh. Just like any group of people, they had better cut out this cancer and become a solid unit again or else they will become consumed by the ‘Big Boys’. I have to feel for Ed. He sees this happening to his family and not knowing how woman think (Men are from Mars theory) he is powerless to put a stop to it. I believe his threats to go back to Iraq are aimed at them and their fighting. He knows that he can not leave. What will become of the two woman that he loves so much. They are also in need of a very good family counselor.
And so, they have created their own mess. In the beginning, the public was willing to help. But now, I don’t think that a flea will come to their rescue. It’s too bad. Personally, I think that she has one of the most photogenic families that I have ever seen. And I am a confessed ‘baby’ dis-liker. I don’t like children until they reach the age of two. Then they are all so beautiful and angelic.
And the losers in all this mess, the children. I like many others have come to realize that you can not have the children with out the mother. They are a packaged deal. So, let’s hope that Gloria and Paul and whomever the court appoints, can take the financial responsibility for the children out of their hands and stop the bleeding. Then Octmom will be left with the responsibility of the job she ‘likes’ best, mothering.
And yes folks, with the right ghost writer, Octomom does have a story. Not pretty, but it will make for some interesting reading. Another study of a dysfuntional family.
What you doubt me? 'Mommy Dearest' made the best sellers list. JMO TYVM
I forgot to say thanks for the welcome back and for the well-balanced posts. Unless there is something we don't know about I can't see the courts appointing a guardian over the financial affairs of the children. The guardian would have to be paid out of the earnings of the children. For that to happen there would have to be significant proof that Nadya misappropriated funds in some way. That is, either spent their money or cheated them in some fashion.
Some have suggested that she has cheated them because all the money she makes should be theirs because if they didn't exist she wouldn't be making it. First, they wouldn't be alive if it weren't for her, but even if we dismiss that fact it doesn't make any difference. The person who does the work gets paid. If I write a book about Nadya I get paid not her. The fact that I couldn't write a book a about her if she didn't exist makes no difference. Hence, if Nadya is the one on camera 90% of the time then she is legally entitled to 90% of the money or more because payrates are typically attached to amount of dialog.
There is no automatic "conflict of interest" because parents are assumed to have their children's best interests at heart unless otherwise clearly proven. IMO the courts aren't going to set a precedent that could lead to tons of lawsuits against the parents of child performers. That would be judicial activism.
Parents don't have to prove their financial competence in general so how she spend money prior their birth is immaterial. What happened the first night in relation to labor law is immaterial because it has nothing to do with finances.
Did she negotiate a bad deal for them? Well, people have done their best to discourage US media from giving her a show or letting her "exploit" her children so if US outlets aren't beating down her door for deals then the octoplets will earn less. It seems she has had to accept a deal from Britain that will produce only a one hour special. If that show ends up popular then maybe she can negotiate a better deal for them in the future.
It seems rather hypocritical to me to try to destroy the octoplets ability to generate funds then complain when they don't get paid a high amount.
Nadya and all her children are a package deal. Even if a financial guardian were appointed Nadya would still have the final say on whether or not they "work" at all and if so where and when.
By the way, is it also unfair for Nadya's other 6 children to get paid because of the octoplets? If not why not? They have done a lot less than Nadya. What is the difference between Nadya making money and the 6 making money?
Duggie, I agree with you that Nadya made one fatal mistake after another, but she did not fire the Killeen group, they quit because of the anger of the public. That initial anger was sparked by Angela's initial interview which was done before Nadya even left the hospital, I know this because I researched it awhile back. After that I don't think Nadya had much choice because the main stream media and much of the public were against her because of what they considered her welfare use and abuse. I think of lot of this was exagerrated like the $1000 make up story. She truly did have a back injury as proved on an MRI and as for jumping on a trampoline or just walking on their with her kids. I have rheumatoid and osteoarthritis in my spine and I played with my children in similar ways even though it was painful. You feel it after but at the time you sometimes just have to try!
This is the reason I stick up for Nadya; I think people have misrepresented and criticized her unmercifully. I guess I try to counter balance it a little. It's like people making fun of her size when a person who has physically seen and spoken to her tells me she is really tiny. I guess people see what they want to see. There are many things about the Sulemans to find and criticize but we really don't know the whole truth about most of them and besides, are any of us perfect?

The 'Coogan Acccount' is a California law. And the child labor laws are also particular to California. They have been around for a good 20 some odd years or more. That's why you very seldom see a real baby on a soap, the rest are animatronics, and why filming companies hire identical babies. Twins are great, but triplets are a bonanza. The more babies, the more camera time. That's where Kate and Ashley Olsen sprung from. I don't know my film history but I believe they were the first of this trend. There may have been others.
This is where you and I disagree. The production companies have not followed the letter of the law and that is why Gloria cried foul. Those that watched that media fiasco in March were appalled. Thank God no one was hurt. If the laws had been applied in that instance, some assemblance of order would have been present. And I blame RO and The Insider, as well. They could have waited until she settled in with the first two babies. Why did they have to wave that magic dollar sign shaped carrot in front of her. They knew she needed the money and took advantage of the fact.
Octomom also did not show ‘good faith’ by her own actions. She did not know about or follow these laws. This showed that the children needed an impartial adult to watch their interests. Just like CASA (a California watch group that hires volunteers to insure that cildren in foster care are treated ethically). Unfortunately, this impartial adult costs money. And because of their potential earning power, lots of money.
I think that is where people are mistaken. Paul’s filing is not saying that Octomom is a bad mother. He doesn’t care how many times she calls 911, or if the children are being fed nutritional food, or how many baths they get. All Paul wants is for the California Laws to be applied and followed. Even if this were not Octomom, any production company who films a child for profit in the state of California must abide by the laws of the state. That’s why RO was fined. And the profits already earned, are long gone and will never be recouped. Paul just wants to ensure that this pattern of fainacial irresponsibilty does not continue. Besides, any good parent sets up a trust fund for their child for college or for what ever he/she wants at 21. These accounts are bonanzas for the children. Some parents go over board and set up these accounts way before the birth of a child. What is so wrong with that? My rich aunt taught me a money lesson, which I live by, if you have five dollars, you budget two for your savings, two for your living expenses and one for your pleasure. Octomom does not understand this budgeting concept and so her children don’t end up like Jackie Coogan, dead broke, the accounts will have to be set up and a responsible guardian hired to monitor. Besides, think of it, not only will he/she limit the amount of money spent on the children for frivolous things, he will be picking out really good investments for them. By the time they are 21, they will be as rich as Kate and Ashley Olsen. That’s how they accumulated their wealth. And for those who worry about the children with disabilities, they will be cared for also.
Why is everyone so up in arms, this is a win/win for both sides. It’s just that Gloria Allred has her name attached to it. A major nemesis for Octomom.
Thankfully, there's no need to defend Nadya here on this site anymore, because no one is attacking her. This story has so many details, it's easy to forget one or two, like who was fired and who had quit. There is no hate on this site.
YOu're right Sharon, we are no longer feeling the hate. I was just airing my findings and my opinion and for once I didn't cringe waiting for a comeback! It feels great.
I agree that accounts being set up for the children are a good thing, I just hope that the attorney doing it is honest and not too costly.
Unbelievable. Please remember that it was a poster from THIS site who seems to have a fixation with another.
What you define as hate, others see as reality. I am personally shocked to see you actually saying that you think the accounts are a good thing. Please remember that in California, they are not an option, but mandatory. If this had been done correctly from the start, there would have been no cost to open the accounts. A parent can open Coogan accounts all by their lonesome. What is unfortunate is that, despite even having an "entertainment attorney" none of this was done until a petition was filed. That is shameful.
And while Coogan accounts are specific to California, there are several other states who have similiar laws, just different names.
Now, please stop your love fest with each other. It's quite sickening. You are all a bunch of bullies whether you will admit it or not. You think you are high and mighty because you are 'defending' Nadya. But all you've done is delay any reasonable discussion with your tactics. I've never seen such a mean spirited group of catty women as I have on this site.
As I have stated before. I HATE LAWYERS!!!!!!
But they are a necessary evil. I have had my dealings with them and the only one driving the Caddy was him and I was paying for his, not my, children to go to college.
That's why I keep saying. She handled this all wrong. It would have meant more money for all of them. She could have been the model for reality shows. But she showed that she was too needy, which translated into too greedy and she did more harm to herself than good.
Isn't it TLC that is featuring the other couple with sextuplets (brand new show). Evidentially there is still some interest in large families. I think we all have a little voyeurism in our blood.
This could have been Octomom's chance.
And yes, the excuse was death threats, boycotts and so on, but I saw an interview with Furtney and he eluded to a mutual agreement. He was not going to put his company in jeopardy for a client who would not co-operate. Do you really think that the rants of the h8ters really means much. Since when does a country of 30 million plus, listen to the rants of the same few hundred (all with different logon ID's).
Only film production companies. Our types are their target audience.
Raising sextuplets is the new show on WE TV featuring the Mashe family. They are showing it in groups of episodes instead of the usual weekly half hours. Mom is a PA and day is an accounting student who also has another job. They have a large supportive family and Jenny's work buddies are also being very supportive. Maybe TLC thinks two families of multiples are enough as they also have Table for 12 which is two sets of twins plus sextuplets, one of which has severe cerebral palsy. Dad's a cop and they also have received an immense amount of community as well as family support. Nadya has little family, is not a regular church goer anywhere and started out with a black mark against her as a single unemployed mom with six previous IVF children. Those who love to hate her have loaded every comment section with nasty and threatening comments so the results in the media may be a bit skewed. I think that people who wish her well are probably less likely to post, especially when to do so means immediate and vicious attacks.
I agree with you, it's too bad Nadya didn't have better guidance right from the start. Not just with the child labor laws, but also with her interviews. Even the best of public personalities have "handlers" and still say something wrong, but untrained people can make themselves look terrible on camera on a consistent basis. That latest RO video about the house being haunted...a decent pr advisor might have informed Nadya to wait until Halloween to come out with that story. Then it would have gone over better with the public.
I think the interest Nadya has generated may have to do, at least in part, to the dysfunctionalism of her family. Lots of people come from dysfunctional families that are laden with shocking scandals. The famous comedian, Christopher Titus, said in one of his performances that these families are actually the normal ones. People can relate to these social train wrecks because so many have been
involved in one, is some way or another.
"It ain't pretty, but it's real!" says the country song, "These are my people!"
Jerry Springer has made a career out of doing a show about paternity tests and people squabbling.
The American public is obviously fascinated with dysfunctional and it has been said before that this family is the perfect recipe for a reality show. They are interesting because of the dysfunctionality; you never know what they will do next so you just keep watching in fascination. At this point we have all had a front row view between the RO videos and Octorazzi's coverage. Of couse the Dr Phil show and the Ann Curry & Oprah interviews also added to the drama as well as giving a boost to their respective ratings. I normally would never watch either one of these shows and I was there as were all the other posters on these boards. The Dr Phil comment section from the last Octuplet show has been going steady for more than four months which I'm virtually sure is a record over there.
RO being fined has nothing at all to do with having a financial advisor. A financial advisor would not have impacted that situation as they only manage the money.
Everything was happening very fast back then so it is not unreasonable that Nadya relied on RO to know the law. Hence, she was not fined.
Whether or not the children need an impartial adult to watch their interests is legally immaterial. All that matters in terms of appointing a financial guardian is if Nadya has mismanaged or misappropriated money that belonged to them.
You say all Paul wants is for the California Laws to be applied and followed. Labour law and financial management are two entirely different matters.
You say "the profits already earned, are long gone and will never be recouped. Paul just wants to ensure that this pattern of fainacial irresponsibilty does not continue."
How do you know all the money is gone? Do you know what the balance is in the Cougan accounts? Do you know how many hours each child is considered to have worked therefore how much money they should have? Just because one child is on camera doesn't mean they all get paid.
As many have noted it's all on film. It will be perfectly clear to the judge that Nadya by far is the one on camera with her children only participating once in a while and rarely together.
"Why is everyone so up in arms, this is a win/win for both sides. It’s just that Gloria Allred has her name attached to it. A major nemesis for Octomom."
I think Allred is a ridiculous publicity hound but that has nothing to do with my opinion. Nor is my opinion based on whether or not I think they *should* have their own financial guardian.
I believe that the judge will make his decision based on the amount of time the children, individually, spent on camera and if the money set aside for them based on hours worked is reasonable. Even if that money was not in a Cougan account right away as long as it made it into one in a reasonable amount of time it won't be a problem.
A woman with 6 children who gave birth to another 8, all premature, is entitled to a few months of grace to get organized. As long as there is no evidence that she ripped them off and within months had everything set up properly she is in the clear (IMO).
I am sure that Jeff dotted his i's and crossed his t's.
Yes SharonD, even President Obahma. I thought that the news conferences were rehearsed, that he received an advance copy of the questions and that he had speech writers giving him the answers. Then the answers were rolled on a tele-prompter.
And look at what he said. The news is still flapping their gums over his mis-statement. It happens to the best of us.
The media's response to Michael Jackson's death made me think as well and a mother's plea to please leave him alone so that she could grieve.
Octomom was fodder for the media. She really did need to follow the direction of a publicist.
And that's why I have become a not-so-Octomom-h8ter. I see a lot of the mistakes that she makes in me. ie, I am not good with blood. 911 is my cure for that.
I'm a cook, so McDonald's was not served in my house. But, my son would not eat a hamburger unless it had Ronald McDonald on it. I wiped that wrapper cleaned so many times to use over and over again. He never knew.
So, yes. There is a little bit of all of us in her. None of us is perfect. We all have our skeletons. We just hide them better.
We'll know tomorrow, won't we?
To my recollection there were five times when all the babies were on camera at once; the initial time when the last baby came home; the time when they were all lined up on the floor and Nadya was singing lullabys, the time they were all on the bed during the showing the the Jon & Kate show , the time Nadya was bathing them, and I believe on mother's day. The older children were in more of the videos, especially JJ. They were also seen in the strollers in the back yard in one video. Each time this was for a very brief period of time. Then of course there was the time their pictures were taken for the website, etc. They may actually have been in front of a camera for those photographs longer than for any of the videos. It is interesting when you think that any proud parents especially of multiples would do the same thing if they could afford it (the photographs I mean), and nobody would think of it being an occasion to be treated as entertainment and requiring studio nurses, etc. I am not surprised that Nadya was apparently was unaware of the possibility of that interpretation
Gloria is what she is. I believe that she would not have brought this suit with out knowing all the facts. One thing this gal does not like to do, is lose.
Unlike you, I have been a Gloria follower for 25 years. I started following her when she championed women's rights issues. Since I was employed in a male dominated world, I know what it feels like to be talented and then dis'd because you were female. For more than 20 years, I had to prove myself. I had to be better than the boys and earned way less. To me, she is my hero.
And I don't put much stock in Jeff. If he was half as good as you think, he would have been one step ahead and sub-contracted an entertainment lawyer to make sure all the i's were dotted and the t's crossed. She hired him long before the Octuplets came home. He had time. His display of temper on the night that the first two came home, showed how out of control he allowed things to get. And to blame Gloria and AIW for that fiasco. They were just bystanders who were as amazed as the public was.
What turned me against Gloria Allred was when I heard her on the Bill O Reilly show while Nadya was still in the hospital saying she was making a report to CPS. She said at that time that she was determined that Nadya would not get to raise those babies. O'Reilly agreed with her. After that, the next time her name comes up was in connection with AIW; when I looked up AIW and saw their very unprepossing website I felt like something didn't smell right. Then Nadya signed a deal with them and I could only hope I was wrong. I even made a small donation through the Dr Phil show for AIW. I just felt that the program they proposed was overkill and way too expensive for what was indicated for the level of care for preemies big enough to be released from the hospital. I don't know that I agree with Nadya that the nurses were out to get her, but I do think she was set up and I was glad to see them leave her household. Once again, she did not handle the situation well and made herself look foolish as did Jeff Czech by punching that wall. Nadya appeared to be surrounded by people with more self interest than her interest at heart and that includes interest in the children. Those are my thoughts based on my own training and background and of course this is only my opinion; not the most popular one its true
Inforsaturated, that's why I said that Gloria will be Gloria. She is a grandstander. And maybe, like me, she has to act like that to play with the boys? But every moment, right from the annoucement by Kaiser Permanente, someone wanted a piece of the action. They all thought that this was a bonanza and each greedy hand was there for padding.
I don't think that I am telling anyone anything new, when it comes to money, children will sell their parents' house right out from under them. And how about the will. Oh Lordy, that's another story.
It's a fact, companies bank on money (raises) as a motivator of people. More money, more motivation. And I'm included. I saw Octomom as a cash cow, too.
And you are right, from Dr. Phil to Gloria, they are all making money off this fiasco. And not a percentage of it is being offered to the kids. They are the losers in this whole deal.
It is probably a GOOD thing that Nadya is presently NOT getting her own TV show, and although I know she needs/wants the money I wish she wasn't doing the Eyeworks show.
All this filming and publicity can't be good for a family, and it has to be very stressful. Like a family of 15 needs extra stress? Regardless of who you are or your child rearing philosophies, I don't think anyone acts totally like themselves on camera. We also know these TV shows edit as they see fit. On the Duggar show you rarely ( if at all) she any of the children misbehaving, whining etc. I would imagine from the little I've seen, they are well mannered children, but nevertheless children! Jon and Kate want to show the family from Kate's perspective and we know what has happened to that. This new show seems like a very "normal" family, but I think the focus there is on the outside family and friends and coworkers support.
Seriously, I think they would focus on Nadya's shortcomings and her childrens' misbehaviors if she had a show of her own.
She needs to focus on her family. I wish she would allow a parent worker to come in and help her with budgeting, meals, time management, and discipline etc. Nadya especially, but anyone with a family of her size could use this type of help.
I know someone with multiples and she said the biggest hep she received was one person who was a wiz at management. I have no idea if this was this person full time job, but they helped her for the first year do planning, budgeting, and gave her all kinds of help in those areas. This mom was a college graduate, not someone without the everyday life skills. At first Nadya was very naive (and prob still is to a certain point)
and acted like she could do it all herself. I wonder if she even knows she needs help other than those she calls nannies.
Has anyone tracked why this family has had so many name changes? Why is Nadya's name Suleman when her dad's name is Doud? Is this cultural? Why did Nadya change her name from Natalie?
