Seven candidates up for Don Lugo football coach

Seven candidates have been selected from within the Chino Valley Unified School District to be interviewed Feb. 17 for the vacant Don Lugo head football coaching job, according to Don Lugo athletic director Joe Marcos. Rick Martin retired Jan. 26 after four years at the helm. Don Lugo is not required to choose one of the seven candidates.

“After the interviews, we’ll see,” Marcos said. “We opened (the job) up to the district and if we’re not satisfied after the interviews, we’ll open it up to the outside.”

Inside information says that Jim Baty the Chino High offensive line coach will be the next Lugo head coach.

  • Football Fan

Don Lugo rumor has it that Luis Garcia, a Lugo alumni that was a football and wrestling standout along with being a Chaffey College Hall of Famer for football will be the next head coach…

  • no idea

So can we all just start throwing out names pretending like we know anything? I heard a rumor that Bob Jones is the new Don Lugo Head Coach…

  • WTF?

BTW – If it’s inside info at least know how to spell the guy’s name. Second, if that ass gets the job so long for DAL.

  • Cowboy Fan

Hey WTF I guess you don’t want to id which one of the names above you are talking about so I will assuem it is Jones that you think is spelled wrong.

  • no idea

I sure hope it is not Jones that he is referring to since I “made that name up”…… Which is my point on this issue, no one has any idea!

  • Cowboy Fan

Just because you don’t know does not mean someone else dosen’t. It is Baty. And I gaurantee that his name is spelled correctly.

  • JERK OFF!

Why, because your Baty? Coming on here to campaign are we?

  • JERK OFF!

    Whatever Baty!

  • Cowboy Fan

No problem, you are right I did not take the time to check the spelling and such. But you are still a sophmore at DL and you must be in love with Baty. At least you agree that Baty is spelled right! I am always posting here as Cowboy Fan. Why don’t you pick a name and use it each time insted of stupid things like WTF or Jerk OFF. If you are an adult lets have an adult conversation!!

  • cowboy fan

That would be a mircle! By the way he never was head coach at chino. He was at Ayala though. Randall only coaches at schools where he knows he has an opportunity to compete with transfers and recruiting. He knows that Chino Hills is king here. Or he must be really desperate to get a job. He was let go at North because of off field issues with players. Lack of discipline and control of players. So maybe you should hope he is not the new coach.

  • WTF You Jerk Off

Okay Baty, er Chino Cowboy Fan, maybe you should hope. I’m sure you’ll get the call soon. Stay close to the phone.

  • U R all Funny

Lou Randall was the Head Football Coach at Chino High School for 1 year. 1979. The Cowboys were 9-1. He left to become the DC at Canyon Springs High School. Do some research Cowboy Fan. Find some ex- Cowboys who are about 50, and they will confirm or better yet, contact John Monger, he wiil confirm. Maybe you will believe him. and yes…Lou is meeting his players today. You must have jumped on the ‘Cowboy Bandwagon’ in the late 90′s because they were winning. You did not grow up in Chino or if you did, you are not very old. I can take you back to the sixties.

  • Lou Randall Jr.

    cowboy fan,

My father did coach at Chino HS for a year and did very well. In regards to your comments about his tenure at North HS, that is not true, but you are entitled to your opinion. My father stood his ground, did not speak, and therefore the rumors began. His character speaks for itself to those that truly know him. My father, and the staff he will bring, will be a great addition to Don Lugo HS.

  • no idea

Well, it looks like Bob Jones didn’t get the position. It seems that everything you read on a website blog is not true, go figure! I still do think it is funny that some of you think just because you write it, it makes it true.

  • U R all Funny

Thanks for the back up Lou Randall Jr.. Cowboy fan doesn’t have a clue about who your father is or what he stands for on and off of the field. His ignorance is amusing. Your father will do great at Lugo and when he wins, Cowboy Fan will become Lugo Fan. That is a testament of his depth. Anyone and everyone close to the local football world knew that this hire has been in the works since early January. It was your dad’s job to turn down…Now I have to admit that I screwed up the year that your dad was Chino’s football coach—it was the 1978 season, graduating class of 1979. My bad. I’m getting pretty old. …and for fun, I will list former Chino Head coaches for Cowboy Fan: Hank Azderhian, levi Dickey, Al Searfoss, Vic Paulson, Pete Setlich, Joe Cervell, Verle Lilywhite, Jim Rawls, Lou Randall, Mike Ellison (3 weeks), Dave Duncanson, Tom Edge, Rod Long (father of Rocky at SDSU), Christ Voris, John Monger, Matt McCain (5 days), Manny Siaz, Matt Montello (interim), Greg Setlich, Matt Mc Cain. May have spelled some wrong. Hank and Johnny won CIF titles while Tom, Rod, and Greg share 0fers. Both Matts, John, and Greg all played for Chino too. I’ll leave now. I’m exhausted and need my dentures cleaned and my diaper changed. Good Luck Don Lugo.

  • Cowboy Fan

Ok I was miss informed man enough to come back here a say that I got it wrong. Good luck to Randall. This is a big timie hire for Don Lugo. They hit the jackpot! Lets hope that he can get the players to go there instead of Chino Hills. Maybe his name will get these weak parents to keep there kids in the boundary.

Very Classy Cowboy Fan. I apologize for my harshness. I wish 3 of the CVUSD schools well this season. I just can’t quite get into the chino hills thing. I feel petty.

  • Cowboy Fan

It is not petty it is a real problem. Look at the LA Times article about the current 4AA basketball playoffs. The only teams left in are private schools. Lets face it Chino Hills has new facilities and is getting lots of love from the school board. The district is laying off teachers but building a multimillion dollar pool at CH. That pool will require general fund money to maintain. This is not the time to add operating costs to the district. I grew up during the old boundary rules and players were not allowed to transfer around and be manipulated by coaches. How can older schools with little funding compete with facilities at new schools?

  • U R all Funny

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but the claim about the pool constuction funding is that it comes from an area that cvusd must ‘use or lose’. As far as old boundary rules are concerned, I’m with you. I like the old way where everyone went to thier home school and it was neighborhood vs neighborhood every Friday night. This new quasi-open enrollment stuff has taken a little bit of the integrity of the game away for me. It is what it is though and I still love high school football.

  • WTF?

Hey U R All Funny: a more interesting list would be how many Chino coaches got the screw job? Start with Setlich and then go.
