LSU can’t sway Hawkins; it’s USC or Stanford tomorrow

Rancho Cucamonga four-star cornerback Chris Hawkins won’t be delaying the announcement of his college commitment again. LSU became the junior’s 27th scholarship offer on Thursday but unlike USC’s offer that caused Hawkins to take three more weeks for evaluation, nothing will deter him from announcing his commitment Sunday.

The only two schools that remain in consideration are Stanford, to which Hawkins was going to commit March 10 before USC offered on March 9, and his father’s favorite, USC. The only person who knows where Hawkins is headed is Hawkins himself. The 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback hasn’t even revealed his decision to his father, Armond Hawkins confirmed in a text message Saturday night.

Hawkins and his father attended a scrimmage on Saturday at USC, where they have spent several days this past week. “Hopefully,” Armond Hawkins said, “that will help.” One thing that is certain, according to the elder Hawkins, is that once the verbal commitment is made, it won’t change. Something else that isn’t changing is the scheduled announcement Sunday at the Nike Football Training Camp at Cerritos College.
