Colony sprinter ties state’s best in two events

Colony senior Kyree King had a big day on Saturday, to say the least. The sprinter posted the state’s best time this season in, not one, but two events at the Sacramento meet of champions. King equaled the state’s best mark with a 10.54-second 100 meters and, though his coach had to convince the meet director to allow him into the 200 invitational field, he tied the state’s best time with a time of 21.21. To add even more perspective, the 200 was his sixth event of the day.

“By that time he was tired,” Colony coach Jaime Sandoval said. “I don’t think that was his best effort.”

Having posted his best times of the season by a stretch, King appears to be peaking at the right time with Mt. Baldy League finals on Thursday representing the final meet of the regular season.

“He’s only getting better,” Sandoval said. “It’s incredible, but I could see him in the high 20s for the 200 and as far as the 100 goes I think a 10.4 is very real for him.”
