2012 All-Valley softball team

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Amber Padilla, Pomona Catholic, Sr.
Padilla led Pomona Catholic to a second consecutive CIF-SS Division 7 championship, where she pitched a perfect game in a 1-0 victory over Bell-Jeff. Padilla went 24-7 with a 0.94 ERA and 260 strikeouts in 171 innings pitched. She also batted .567 with two home runs and 50 RBIs for the Pacers.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Mike Smith, Chino
Smith led Chino to the CIF-SS Division 2 title, the first softball championship in school history. He also led the Cowgirls to the school’s first Mt. Baldy League championship courtesy of two wins over city rival Don Lugo, which Chino defeated for the third time this season in the CIF championship game.

FIRST TEAM
P: Miranda Viramontes, Chino, So.
In her first season as a starter, she went 20-4 with a 1.20 ERA and 188 strikeouts in 162 innings pitched. The sophomore won two one-run playoff games and hit a home run in a 2-0 semifinal win, leading Chino to the CIF-SS Division 2 championship.

P: Nikki Innamorato, Chino Hills, Sr.
The four-year starter, who will play at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo next season, went 22-2 with a 1.00 ERA and 11 shutouts in leading Chino Hills to the CIF-SS Division 3 championship. The All-CIF selection won 79 games in her high school career, including 16 playoff games.

P: Belinda Renne, Don Lugo, Sr.
The All-CIF selection was clutch in the playoffs, winning a 10-inning quarterfinal game and a one-run semifinal contest in leading Don Lugo to the CIF-SS Division 2 final. Renne went 21-5 with a 1.69 ERA with 201 strikeouts in 169 2/3 innings and batted .333 with nine RBIs.

C: Janell Wheaton, San Dimas, So.
The Valle Vista League MVP hit .604 with three home runs and 31 RBIs for the league champions. Wheaton struck out just once in 106 plate appearances and had a .901 slugging percentage for a Saints team that reached the CIF-SS Division 4 quarterfinals.

INF: Delaney Spaulding, Etiwanda, Jr.
The UCLA-bound shortstop hit .490 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs for Etiwanda, the second-place team in the Baseline League. The first team all-league selection had a .942 slugging percentage and scored 33 runs.

INF: Brandi Harkness, St. Lucy’s, Sr.
The All-CIF third baseman hit .441 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs to help lead St. Lucy’s to the CIF-SS Division 3 semifinals. Harkness had a .903 slugging percentage, scored 27 runs and struck out just six times in 106 plate appearances.

INF: Leia Ruiz, Chino, Sr.
The CIF-SS Division 2 Player of the Year and Mt. Baldy League MVP batted .537 with six home runs and 35 RBIs. The shortstop also scored 44 runs scored in helping Chino to the school’s first softball CIF-SS championship.

INF: Nikki Girard, Chino Hills, Sr.
The Arizona State-bound shortstop hit .423 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs as Chino Hills won the CIF-SS Division 3 title. Girard was named the CIF-SS Player of the Year in Division 3, the Sierra League MVP for the second time and All-CIF for the third time.

OF: Ashley Montion, Pomona Catholic, Sr.
The first-team All-Arrowhead League outfielder hit .453 with three home runs and 40 RBIs for the back-to-back CIF-SS Division 7 champions. Montion also scored 43 runs and had a .764 slugging percentage.

OF: McKenzie Long, Los Osos, So
The first team all-Baseline League center fielder hit .540 with 19 RBIs and 28 runs scored to help Los Osos to the first league championship in school history. Long also stole 19 bases and had five triples.

OF: Patricia Parks, Chino Hills, So
The sophomore left fielder, who has committed to Arizona, hit .479 with three home runs, 18 RBIs and 36 runs scored for the CIF-SS Division 3 champions. She also went 10-1 in the circle with a 1.07 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 65 innings.

DH: Melissa Taukeiaho, Etiwanda, Sr.
The All-CIF Washington-bound senior hit .543 with 16 home runs and 39 RBIs with a 1.259 slugging percentage. The Baseline League MVP also scored 41 runs, walked 23 times and struck out just four times in 106 plate appearances.

UTL: Krystel Gabbard, Kaiser, Sr.
The All-CIF pitcher saved her best performance for last, winning an 11-inning CIF-SS Division 4 championship game by the score of 1-0. Gabbard went 18-5 with a 2.10 ERA in the circle and batted .389 with five home runs and 30 RBIs.
