Etiwanda’s Collison won’t wear No. 2 with Mavs

Darren Collison will no longer wear the No. 2 that has adorned his jersey since he was at Etiwanda High School. The Dallas Mavericks point guard, who was acquired in a trade from the Indiana Pacers this summer, decided against the number out of respect for Jason Kidd. Despite the fact that Kidd signed with the New York Knicks in a last-minute change of heart this offseason, Collison has elected to wear No. 4 instead of the number he wore for UCLA, the New Orleans Hornets and the Pacers.

“I don’t feel like it’s necessary for me to wear No. 2,” Collison told espnDallas.com. “I just want to give that respect to him. I respect him as a player. Any young player looking up to Jason Kidd will tell you that he’s been helpful. And you know Jason Kidd has definitely been good to this organization, as well.”
