Oregon swoops in on top track recruit just in time for Signing Day

Jordie Munford is glad Oregon annoyed her with its persistence. If not for the incessant phone calls, the Rancho Cucamonga High School hurdler would have made a decision between USC and UCLA yesterday morning when she signed a letter of intent.

Two weeks ago Oregon wasn’t even on the radar of one of the country’s top track recruits. Two weeks later she signed a letter of intent with the Ducks on Wednesday.

“They just kept calling and kept calling,” Munford said. “Finally they convinced me to take a trip up there. After my visit, they were pretty much in front from there.”

The three-time runner-up at the CIF State championships was busy deciding between the two Los Angeles track powers – she also visited Cal and Texas A&M – before an official visit to Oregon two weeks ago unexpectedly permanently altered her course.

She was confident in the decision, but making phone calls to those she had to turn down after years of recruitment wasn’t an easy task.

“It’s just a relief to be done with the process because that means I don’t have to worry about deciding anymore,” Munford said. “Oregon wasn’t even in my sight, but I’m glad they’re my school.”
