Boys basketball CIF-SS championship schedule: No-call marred Etiwanda’s last title game with Mater Dei

The Etiwanda High School boys basketball team settled one score by defeating Long Beach Poly Tuesday night after two consecutive semifinal losses to its postseason nemesis. Now it’s time to settle another. Three years ago – after a semifinal win over guess who? Long Beach Poly – Mater Dei won the CIF championship over Etiwanda following this outrageous no-call in the final seconds on the potential game-tying 3-point attempt from Evan Jenkins in the video below.

La Verne Lutheran certainly isn’t lacking motivation in it’s CIF-SS Division 4AA championship game rematch with Gardena Serra after losing the title game by 10 last year. The Trojans’ fourth consecutive trip to a CIF title game – they last won the championship in 2010 – was highlighted by a semifinal victory over previously undefeated No. 1 seed Torrance Bishop Montgomery. Though there were doubters, the 2013 Trojans have maintained the program’s course under Brandon Lee despite the departure last season of Eric Cooper, the coach that transformed La Verne Lutheran from a doormat to a two-time state champion in five seasons.
