Etiwanda’s McLaughlin deemed one of country’s top juniors by MaxPreps

The awards seem to keep rolling in for Etiwanda point guard Jordan McLaughlin. After leading the Eagles to the CIF-SS Division 1AA championship, the lastest honor is a spot on MaxPreps.com’s Junior All-American fourth team.

The honors, exclusively for juniors, included one other player from the CIF-SS. Stanley Johnson of Mater Dei, the team Etiwanda defeated in the CIF-SS championship game, was selected to the first team and named the National Player of the Year.

Mater Dei did get the last word on Etiwanda, defeating the Eagles in the CIF State tournament semifinals on the way to its third consecutive state championship. That’s not the only thing working against McLaughlin. The junior finished with modest average of 15.6 points per game, but those informed are well aware the Eagles slow-down, defensive style afforded McLaughlin far less opportunities than a player like Johnson (19.4 points, 8.7 rebounds).

I’m sure McLaughlin has no problem with his spot on the fourth team as long as he can take his CIF championship with him.
