Bonita and Alta Loma High schools will join together for benefit baseball scrimmages in honor of former baseball coach Ted Persell.
Persell, an assistant at Bonita last year and head coach at Alta Loma the previous decade, died in automobile accident in December.
Those two schools will square off with the freshmen and varsity teams playing each other at 6:30 p.m. at Bonita and the junior varsity teams playing at 3:15 p.m. at Alta Loma.
There is no admission charge but donations will be taken at the gate. The concession stand will be open and a 50-50 raffle held with all proceeds going to Persell’s family.
Persell grew up in Duarte and played at Bishop Amat. Bonita coach John Knott said he might look into expanding the event into a tournament to include part of the San Gabriel Valley.
