Etiwanda baseball teams hits the road for rest of season

The Rancho Cucamonga baseball team isn’t the only homeless baseball team in the Baseline League. So is Etiwanda.

The Eagles had been using one of the side fields adjacent to the soccer fields at LoanMart Field as a home field because of construction of an on-campus stadium.

But coach Don Furnald made the call to find another venue, most notably because of a 21-8 loss to Los Osos in a game that featured six home runs.

The measurement all the way around is just 300 feet and Furnald thought that comprised the integrity of varsity games in a highly competitive league.

So now they’ll just be playing games against the scheduled opponent at the school’s field although they will be the home team on the scoreboard.

They still practice at that field and it will sill be used for freshman and junior varsity games.

“I don’t want that field to determine the outcome of a game,” he said. “We were still getting on a bus every day anyway. It really doesn’t make much of a difference where we go.”

It has worked out alright for the Eagles so far. They played a home game at Damien against the Spartans and came away with an 11-10 win on Wednesday. That came after they trailed 9-0.

Rancho Cucamonga also has a stadium being built on campus that has drive it off campus. Rancho practices at Heritage Park and plays game at Littleton Park.
