Palomares League baseball race coming down to four teams

A baseball race can’t get much closer than the Palomares League in which four teams are fighting for three playoff berths.

Three teams are tied for first – Glendora (19-6, 7-4), Ayala (14-10, 7-4) and South Hills 917-7, 7-4).

One game behind those three, in definite striking distance, is Bonita (18-8, 6-5).

Most thought even before the season started it would be that kind of race and it has lived up to billing.

Bringing up the rear are Claremont (8-11, 3-8) and DIamond Bar (10-13, 3-8) but the coaches of the contending teams are first to admit even those have the talent to pull off a win that could throw a monkey wrench into the hopes of the contenders.

And this week it gets interesting because Bonita and Ayala go head-to-head, with a Wednesday game at Bonita and the Friday game at Ayala.

Glendora has Diamond Bar while South Hills has Claremont.

The games will be even more intense coming down to the wire because there will be no at-large qualifiers in Division 2. The top three get in, that’s it. A good team will be left at home. Just who will be the odd team out?
