Damien volleyball to face top seed in state playoff opener

The Damien boys volleyball team is the lone local team advancing to the Southern California Regional of the state playoffs.

The Spartans have drawn the No. 8 seed in Division II and will play at No. 1 Corona del Mar at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Damien (26-6) won the CIF Southern Section title in Division 5, defeating Arrowhead Christian 3-1 title match on Saturday at Cerritos College.

Corona del Mar (29-5) lost the Division 1 final to Huntington Beach.
