Alta Loma baseball player Darren Taylor was severely injured today while hiking at Cucamonga Peak with some friends.
Alex Ekelund, an assistant coach in the program, said Taylor fell 50 feet and sustained three broken bones in his back and two in his neck. He did having feeling in his extremities but was airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital.
He will be put in a brace for six weeks before surgical options are explored.
Taylor started the year on the junior varsity but was promoted to varsity three games into the Mt. Baldy League schedule. He hit .281 in 12 games with 5 RBI and 5 runs scored, primarily seeing time at designated hitter.
