Picking the Week 3 winners . . .

Time to roll the dice again and pick the high school football winners. Hope this gets easier now that the teams have a little body of work behind them.

I’m 54-20 on the season. I MUST do better.

Mater Dei 24, Upland 21 – Can’t pick against the juggernaut. That doesn’t mean I don’t think Upland can win but the Monarchs have beaten the Highlanders the last two years so . . .

Rancho Cucamonga 21, Murrieta Valley 14 – Ok, so I wasn’t impressed with the Cougars last week. I am confident they will get their act together and be the team we all expect them to be.

Claremont  28, Damien 14 – Spartans coach Mark Paredes says his team had trouble stopping the run last week and that’s what Claremont does. So I go with them and Duy Tran-Sampson.

Los Osos 28, JW North 10 – This foe was one of the Grizzlies two wins last year and they have some momentum and confidence after a nice win last week. They should take this one.

Etiwanda 21, Oak Hills 17 – Two teams that have more talent than their 1-2 record would indicate. This could go either way. I’ll go with the Eagles thanks to the return of QB Andrew Kanatsky.

Bishop Amat 38, Chino HIlls 21 – Amat is loaded this year and it is on a roll. The Huskies will have their hands full.

Summit 32, Alta Loma 21 – Huge test for Mark Pasquarella’s team but the SkyHawks have a few too many potent weapons.

Ayala 21, Great Oak 20 – Great Oak is a surprising 0-3 but has played quality teams. i have no idea what to expect from Ayala, it’s down, it’s up, it’s down. That means this should be an up week.

Chaffey 45, Bloomington 7 – The Tigers can name the score. Mikey Dean will have another 250 yards in three quarters.

Bonita 36, South El Monte 7 – South El Monte was no match for Chino this week. I think Bonita cruises this week as well.

Chino 28, Ontario 20 – This might be the most interesting game of the night. Two teams that have struggled lately but are off to great starts and neither has played a quality for to date. Who will stay on a roll? I think it will be the Cowboys.

Diamond Bar 24, Brea Olinda 10 – I put the Brahmas in my Top 10 this week which means they’ll probably lose. Just kidding, Have to go with Dimaggio Rico & company.

Diamond Ranch 32, Shurr 14 – Jimmy Welker’s bunch is going to keep it going.

Don Lugo, 14, Chaparral 10 – This is probably a coin toss. I like what Luis Garcia has done with the program so I am giving it to him.

Eisenhower 14, Rialto 13 – Both teams are struggling badly. Someone has to win. The Eagles probably have slightly better athletes.

Fontana 14, Miller 7 – Two more struggling teams. I liked some of the athletes I saw on Fontana last week but the Steelers are down to a No. 3 quarterback so this could go either way.

Ganesha 21, San Gabriel 7 – The Giants won the first two, then got a little humbled last week. That dose of reality will get coach Don Cayer’s team back in gear.

Saddleback Valley Chr. 42, Garey 7 – The Vikings haven’;t had any luck, This will be a tough one too.

Dominguez 45, Jurupa Hills – Not expecting the Spartans to pull this one off.

Kaiser 28, Valley View 7 – The Cats got pummeled last week. They will get back on teh winning track however.

Pomona 21, Villa Park 17 – Tough picking a game against out of area teams because I nothing about its opponents. So going with the home team.

Ontario Christian 24, Verbum De1 14 – I pick the Knights to win and they lose and I pick them to lose and they win. So I’ll probably miss on them again. But I hope they win.

San Dimas 32, Rosemead 0 – The Saints WILL bounce back from last week’s loss to Diamond Bar.

Whittier Christian 21, Western Christian 0 – Western is struggling. Not that Whittier is much better but it will probably win.
