Upland coach Tim Salter and his Highlanders have played both Tesoro and Rancho Cucamonga this year. Those teams are squaring off in a West Valley Division quarterfinal at Los Osos.

Tesoro is the favorite and has an outstanding quarterback in Devon Modster who has committed to Arizona.

But Salter likes the chances of his Baseline League rival because of the quality of its defensive backs.

“They haven’t seen a team that has that much speed and defends the pass that well,” Salter said of Rancho.

Upland actually gets the winner of that game if it wins tonight against Vista Murrieta.

Upland lost to Tesoro on Sept. 11 30-28 and defeated Rancho in the last game of the regular season on Nov. 6, 31-21.
