Alta Loma girls water polo team goes unbeaten in league play

The Alta Loma girls water polo team didn’t just want to win a Mt. Baldy League title.  They wanted to leave no doubt – They didn’t.

The Braves completed the Mt. Baldy League season 10-0 with a 13-5 win over Chaffey on Tuesday. They head into the postseason 17-8 overall and are ranked seventh in Division 7.

Junior goal keeper Mallory Johnson managed 15 saves, continuing her string of stellar performances.

Senior Ashley Hernadez and junior Vanessa Murray each had five goals while freshman Julia Bensing-Ruiz added two. Junior Allison Hensel rounded out the scoring.

“The fact it was a rebuilding year and we achieved what we did says a lot about the heart of my girls,” Braves coach Kevin Nesbit said. “Sometimes passion and determination outweigh logic. It didn’t come easy.”

Alta Loma advanced to the CIF semifinal a year ago but graduated eight players, including all of its starters.
