Heather Inglima takes over volleyball program at Chino

Heather Inglima has been named head volleyball coach at Chino High School.

She had served as the junior varsity coach the last two years and wants to help a program that was 1-41 over the last two years under the previous coach.

“The biggest thing is to instill some confidence and get them to start having fun again,” she said. ”

“When you have a couple of years like they have had, people start playing selfish,” she added. “I want to get them back to working together and playing together as a team and help them build those sisterhood bonds that come when you play on a team. Then you can start being successful.”

Inglima, 31, is a 2002 graduate of Upland High School where she competed for the Highlanders.

Her junior varsity team went 5-15 a year ago, which was an improvement over 3-17 the previous year.

It may seem like an uphill battle but she said about 50 percent of the players in the program have some club experience so all is not lost. Her modest goal for the first year is to make the playoffs as one of the representatives out of the Hacienda League which has been dominated by Los Altos and Diamond Ranch of late.

“We have five teams in our league and three make the playoffs,” she said. “I don’t think that it out of reach.”
