Ganesha catcher Matt Rhodus signs with NAIA school

Ganesha High School baseball standout Matt Rhodus has signed with NAIA Valley City College in North Dakota.

Rhodus signing

Rhodus was a key player for the Giants (18-5) who captured their first league title in 50 years. He played first base, catcher and outfield but was being recruited as a catcher.

“I really think that’s my best position,” he said. “I’m really going to focus on that and I’m exicted about the opportunity.”

Rhodus hit .305 with 17 RBI and 19 runs scored and was noted as a solid defensive catcher a well, earning first-team Miramonte League honors.

He was also one of the Giants team captains.

Rhodus plans to visit the school next month. He did get to meet with the coaches and players, traveling to Arizona when that team was there for a spring break tournament.

He got hooked up with that particular school because two of Ganesha’s assistant coaches, Carlos Rosales and Robert Wiley, are alumni of that school.

Rhodus plans to major in math.
