Leif Williams named wrestling coach at Webb

Just studying at Pomona College and playing football for the Pomona-Pitzer football team can occupy a lot of time. But Leif Williams has something else to add to his already busy schedule. He has take the position of head wrestling coach at nearby Webb School.

leifwilliams-2The native of Dekalb, Ill., attended Dekalb High School, one of the top wrestling programs in a region where wrestling is popular.

He wrestled at anywhere from the 172-pound weight class to the heavyweight division in his high school career.

He also served as a club wrestling coach, working with elementary and middle school students in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, and also coaching underclassmen at DeKalb High.

Williams has met with about nine Webb students interested in wrestling. He plans to hold tryouts and encourage football players to join the wrestling team.

Williams, an economics major, has also been part of a resurgence with the Sagehens football team which is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in SCIAC play, its best start since 2000.
