Claremont’s Jake Gentry commits to Azusa Pacific

Claremont baseball standout Jake Gentry has committed to NCAA Division II Azusa Pacific University.

Gentry, a catcher and infielder, was a first team All-Palomares League selection last year as a junior. He hit .370 with 3 doubles, 3 triples and 11 RBI.

“I liked the whole community atmosphere and it’s close to home,” Gentry said. “They really liked their sports there. I want to be part of that, go to the football games and just enjoy that part of college.”

Gentry plans to major in journalism or broadcasting. He had been talking to a handful of other schools but nothing formal materialized.

Azusa Pacific is coming off a 30-20 season in the spring. The Cougars have enjoyed considerable success since moving from NAIA to Division II.
