Rancho Cucamonga track standout Jordan Venglass picks Cal

Rancho Cucamonga High School’s Jordan Venglass has visited 15 or so colleges. So when he decided which one he wanted to attend he was very sure. The track standout made a verbal commitment with Cal, doing so while on an official visit to the school over the weekend.

He will sign the official letter of intent on April 12 – the spring signing day.

Venglass, who specializes in the javelin, has been visiting schools since his sophomore year, most of those unofficial. Many also came because he was competing at a meet at that school or in the area.

“I have been there a couple of times and I really like it,” he said. “It’s been a long road but I thought this was best for me both athletically and academically.”

Venglass says he was also heavily considering West Point, Air Force, Cal State Fuillerton and UC San Diego.

The javelin is not contested at the high school level but Venglass has a personnel best of 186 feet. He is hoping to reach 205 feet this year so he can qualify for the United State Junior National team.

Success in the discipline runs in the family. His father Jeff is a coach and younger sister Abby is an up and coming thrower as well.

Venglass plans to major in either economics or pre-med. He also plans to participate in Army ROTC.
