Local softball standouts get set for College World Series

The NCAA College World Series (softball) starts on Thursday in Oklahoma City and there are a number of athletes from the Sun/Daily Bulletin coverage area who part of teams in the hunt.

A quick look at those players and the numbers they have put up this year:

* Paige Halstead (Los Osos), Soph., C, UCLA – Hit .286 with 24 runs, 21 RBI, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs.

* Sahvanna Jaquish (Redlands East Valley), Sr., C-INF, LSU – Hitting .331 with 40 runs, 60 RBI, 12 doubles and 9 home runs. A first-team NFCA All-American.

* Justine McLean (Rancho Cucamonga), Sr., OF, Florida – Hitting .287 with 40 runs scored, 16 RBI, 1 triple.

* Melanie Olmos (Grand Terrace), Fr., P, Oklahoma –

* Delaney Spaulding (Etiwanda), Sr., INF, UCLA – Hitting .381 with 57 runs, 43 RBI, 17 doubles, 1 triple and 16 home runs.

* Vanessa Taukeiaho (Etiwanda), Fr., OF, Oklahoma –

* Janell Wheaton (San Dimas), Jr., C-1B, Florida – Hitting .261 with 23 runs, 31 RBI, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs.

Florida vs. Texas A&M
