Ayala softball standout Sarah Willis headed to Norco

One of the area’s top softball players will be tossing the ball for a new team next spring.

Sarah Willis, who had a sensational freshman year at Ayala, will be transferring to Norco, she and her father confirmed this afternoon while at the Daily Bulletin for the All-Inland Valley photo shoot.

Willis helped the Bulldogs (24-11)  to a berth in the Division 2 Southern Section semifinal where they lost a heart-breaker to Hart 1-0 in 12 innings. She was 12-8 with a 1.62 earned run average and 144 strikeouts in 137 innings.

In addition, she batted .380 with 23 runs scored, 23 RBI, 8 doubles, 2 triples and 4 home runs.

Among the other big moments she had this season was a solo home run that was lone score of the game in a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Los Altos.

The Bulldogs had another pitcher as well in Katelyn Williams who was 10-3 with as 2.12 ERA but she just graduated. They had another freshman in Madison Sanchez who had four appearances (two starts) in which she had an 0.62 ERA in 12 innings.

Norco (33-1) was ranked No. 1 in the nation much of the season but it lost the Division title game to Los Alamitos. The Cougars are graduating their standout pitcher Taylor Dockins.
