Chino’s Jacob Aguilera signs with Humboldt State for soccer

Chino soccer standout Jacob Aguilera didn’t plan on playing soccer in college. He had planned on going somewhere but was going to focus on academics.

But he ended up finding a school he thought fit him both athletically and academically.

He signed with NCAA Division II Humboldt State earlier this week.

“It’s really nice there. There are a lot of trees and good scenery,” said Aguilera, who plans to major in environmental engineering. “It just really fit me perfectly.”

The senior midfielder took a trip to look at colleges with academics in mind and visited Division II schools Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay as well as Division III UC Santa Cruz.

Then he head about an ID camp being held at Humboldt State and decided to go. He liked the players he met and tried out for the team, eventually earning a spot.

The rest is history.

“It is kind of funny how it all worked out. I am very excited about the opportunity.”

Aguilera has played on the Chino varsity full-time since his sophomore year. This season he helped the Cowboys to a 19-8-4 record with a 7-2-1 mark in the Hacienda League that was good enough for first place..
