Claremont baseball standout Jack Noble chooses Oregon

Noble

Claremont baseball standout Jack Noble has committed to Oregon.

He is just a junior and could have waited for other potential offers or to make “official” visits but didn’t think that was necessary.

He took an “unofficial” trip to the school and also went to UC Santa Barbara as well as University of San Diego.

“The coaching staff was just amazing and I really liked it there. The campus was great and it will be great for my major so I didn’t see a need to wait,” he said.

Noble, a right-handed pitcher, plans to major in sports marketing. So yes the thought of Nike being headquartered close by and being closely tied to the school was in the back of his mind. But it wasn’t a huge factor.

“That was really just a bonus after all the other things it had to offer,” he said.

Noble was 3-5 last season as a sophomore on the varsity with the Wolfpack. He had a 3-5 record but respectable 3.50 ERA in 11 appearances, nine of those starts. He pitched 46 innings with 23 earned runs allowed, 18 walks and 32 strikeouts.

Claremont’s Jake Gentry commits to Azusa Pacific

Claremont baseball standout Jake Gentry has committed to NCAA Division II Azusa Pacific University.

Gentry, a catcher and infielder, was a first team All-Palomares League selection last year as a junior. He hit .370 with 3 doubles, 3 triples and 11 RBI.

“I liked the whole community atmosphere and it’s close to home,” Gentry said. “They really liked their sports there. I want to be part of that, go to the football games and just enjoy that part of college.”

Gentry plans to major in journalism or broadcasting. He had been talking to a handful of other schools but nothing formal materialized.

Azusa Pacific is coming off a 30-20 season in the spring. The Cougars have enjoyed considerable success since moving from NAIA to Division II.
