St. Lucy’s water polo standout Devin Holcomb commits to Cal

Senior water polo player Devin Holcomb of St. Lucy’s has made a verbal commitment to Cal and plans to sign with that school next Wednesday.

“I really like the coach and I really want to win a national championship,” she said. “They have a great program and I think I’ll have the chance to do that there.”

Holcomb, who also plays with the Foothill Water Polo Club, will be in her ninth year competing in the sport. She earned second team All-League honors as a freshman and was a first team selection the last two years.

Last season Holcomb scored 46 goals with 111 steals, 41 assists and 39 ejections drawn.

She has been in the Olympic Development Program the last five years and is a three-time US Junior National Team member.

She made her official visit to Cal last weekend. It was the only official visit she took but she also made unofficial trips to San Diego State, UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Irvine and Princeton.

She plans to pursue a career in sports medicine or physical therapy.
