Etiwanda’s Jordan McLaughlin leading USC resurgence

The USC men’s basketball team has been one of the biggest surprises in college basketball this season. And it has been a local player proving instrumental in that showing.

Sophomore guard Jordan McLaughlin, out of Etiwanda High School, is averaging a team-high 12.6 points a game. He had nine points and 10 assists in the 80-61 win over UCLA on Thursday.

A night later McLaughlin was taking a game at his old high school, sitting court side as the Eagles squared off with Damien.

Here’s what he had to say about the showing of his team this season:

Etiwanda basketball standout Garrett Carter commits to Chico State

Etiwanda senior basketball standout Garrett Carter has made a verbal commitment to Chico State.

He has yet to visit the school but plans to do so in March during spring break.

Some Division I schools were interested including Florida State but he opted to go with the Division II school which plays in the California Collegiate Athletic Association along with several other Southern California schools.

“They have been interested in me for a long time and I just felt a lot of love from them,” he said. “I think it will be a great place for me.”

Carter, a 6-foot-guard, was a second-team All-Inland Valley selection last year. He has had a knack for making big shots. Most notable was his game-winning shot at Mater Dei in the Open Division semifinal last March won by the Eagles 52-49. He had 13 in that game including several clutch plays in the closing minute.

Carter plans to major in mass communications or broadcasting.
