Rancho Cucamonga’s Jerry Chaney chooses San Diego State

Wide receiver Jerry Chaney of Rancho Cucamonga is the latest Inland Valley standout to make a college decision early.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder has made a verbal commitment to San Diego State after taking an official visit to that school today.

“I really liked the campus and the facilities and I had really good connection with the coaches,” he said.

Like most before him, Chaney said he wanted to get the decision out of the way early so he can focus on his senior season.

“The recruiting process is pretty long and it’s stressful,” he said. “I really wanted to be able to focus on my last season.”

Chaney helped the Cougars to a 10-2 record and share of the Baseline League title. He tallied 30 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns with a long of 60 yards.

Chaney also visited San Jose State, Fresno State and USC.
