Alta Loma’s Max Reyes signs with Azusa Pacific

Infielder Max Reyes of Alta Loma was among the large number of Inland Valley Valley finalizing his college decision, signing with NCAA Division II Azusa Pacific today.

Reyes, a second baseman and shortstop, helped the Braves (14-9-1) to a second-place showing in the Mt. Baldy League last spring. He has been a starter since his freshman year.

Azusa Pacific was the only school he visited but he had also been talking to Cal State Bakersfield and Cal Poly Pomona.

“I liked the campus and the small school feel,” he said. “The baseball program is very good and it’s close to home and those were things I was looking for.”

Reyes, who plans to major in business, said he didn’t feel like waiting to see if any other offers came along should he have a stellar senior season.

“I really like what they had to offer so I didn’t see the need to wait.” he said.
