Chaffey’s Rhese Gomez choses Nevada-Reno

Chaffey baseball standout Rhese Gomez has made a verbal commitment today to NCAA Division 1 Nevada-Reno.

Gomez, a junior pitcher and outfielder, made the decision official today. He visited the school in August and also had an unofficial trip to Arizona his freshman year. UC Riverside had also been showing a lot of interest.

“It’s a beautiful school and a beautiful campus,” he said. “It’s an up and coming program with a young coach that know what he’s doing. It’s in a great conference too so it seemed like a good fit.”

Gomez was a second-team All-Mt. Baldy selection last spring as a sophomore. He hit .281 in 21 games and did not make a fielding error.

An injury limited him to playing the outfield until the end of league play. He was 2-1 with a 1.56 ERA in three appearances when he finally did get to pitch.

Gomez has not decided on a major.
