Claremont High track athletes excel at Mt. SAC Relays

The Claremont High School track team delivered some record-breaking performance over the weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays, held this year at Cerritos College.
The boys 4 x 1600 meter relay team of senior Sergio Espinoza, junior Owen Bishop, senior Tab Backman and junior Ryan Renken ran a 17:26, which bested the CHS school record by 24 seconds and took the Gold medal in last Men’s event of the meet on Saturday night. It was the fourth fastest time in the nation this year.
There were individual highlights as well Junior Annie Boos, Junior broke a school record in the mile with a 4:56.86 – the 13th fastest time in the state this year.
Renken also set a new CHS record in the mile, running 4:15.97, the 20th fastest time in the state.
CHS athletes did compete in many other events at the meet, and won silver medals in the girls 4 x 100 meter hurdles shuttle relay, the girls 4 x 800m relay, and the boys 110m hurdles shuttle relay.
