Rancho Cucamonga defensive back Tayari Venable admits he might have jumped the gun a bit when he committed to Washington State before his junior year.
After de-comitting from that school back in September Venable has decided San Diego State is where he wants to play college football.
He committed to that school upon his visit there the past weekend.
Venable, a 6-foot, 180-pounder, said he started reconsidering when other schools started contacting him, even after his original commitment. He never actually visited Washington State.
“I think I committed too early without really thinking about all my options,” he said. “I thought this was a better fit for me. It was about the schemes they play defensively and the education. The first day I was there we talked more about the education part and I liked that.”
Venable, who helped the Cougars to a 12-1 showing and berth in the CIF Division I semifinal, had 12 offers with Oregon State and Nevada pursuing him most after his de-commitment.
He will be following teammate Darren Hall to San Diego State. He committed to the Aztecs in the winter. Having a teammate there was a definite factor.
“That was definitely part of it,” he said. “It will be nice having someone there that I know. He can push me and I will push him.”
Venable plans to major in psychology.
