Upland’s Wright decides on Sacramento State

Upland High School football standout Trevor Wright has signed with Division Sacramento State. He went to the school on an official visit earlier this month and had taken an “unofficial” visit there during the season to see a game.

Wright was the Baseline League Most Valuable Player. He also earned All-Inland Valley honors, catching 73 passes for 1,493 yards and 11 touchdowns in leading the Highlanders to a share of the league title.

He also excelled on defense but was recruited as a receiver.

“What really sold me was the coaching staff and the way they related to me,” he said. “It really turned out better than I  expected.”

Upland coach Tim Salter had long trumpeted the skills of his offensive standout and had been surprised he didn’t get more offers, chalking that up to his 6-foot, 170-pound stature.

The Hornets went 5-7 last season.
