Webb shortstop Ryan Whithorn signs with Concordia-Irvine

Webb shortstop Ryan Whithorn has signed with Concordia-Irvine.

He had been considering several schools on the East Coast including the Naval Academy, Iona and Georgetown but opted to stay closer to home and play for the school that is in its first year as a NCAA Division II competitor.

Whithorn plays shortstop for he Gauls but sees the potential to play the other infield positions as well and sees the potential to get some time on the field right away.

“I really liked the baseball program and I think it’s a place I’ll get the most out of my baseball experience,” he said. “It’s close enough my family and friends can come and see me play and far enough away I’ll still have some independence.”

“It is a Christian school and that was important to me too.”

Whithorn, a native of Claremont, plans to major in sports management.

Whithorn has helped the Gauls to a 12-5 record and a 5-3 mark in San Joaquin League play. He is hitting .389 with 6 doubles, 5 triples, 18 runs scored and 20 RBI in 17 games.
