On Saturday, the Rancho Cucamonga High girls cross country team is hosting a fundraiser, a 5K run/walk, to be held at Millken Park in Rancho Cucamonga.
It is actually a “costume” 5K, but the costumes are optional.
Sign-in and registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the run/walk starting at 9 a.m.
The event is for people of all ages, and costs $5. Food and drinks will be sold on site. All entrants also get a raffle ticket. All proceeds go to the Rancho Cucamonga High girls cross country team.
Former Rancho Cucamonga High School standout Brenda Martinez advanced to the finals of the 800 meters with a second place showing in her semifinal heat at the 2013 World Track and Field Championships in Moscow.
She ran in the fastest of two heats and registered a time of 1:59.03 that was .11 seconds behind fellow American and five-time U.S. champion Alysia Johnson Montano’s (1:58.92).
Martinez, who is having the best year of her young professional career, was in sixth heading into the final lap with Montano staying with her usual strategy of going out hard from the start. Martinez raced hard over the last 200 meters but came up just short.
Here is the box score for the championship game of the Inland Empire Invitational boys basketball tournament on Saturday. The game was played at Miller High School.
