Calling home for the holiday season

Starting today, the largest men's and boy's haircutting chain will be raising funds to provide men and women in the service the opportunity to call home during the holiday season.

Last year SportClips Haircuts led the nationwide effort and helped raise $90,000 for over 800,000 minutes of talk time between soldiers and their families for Operation Uplink. VFW Operation Uplink provides phone cards and internet talk time to connect military families for minutes

The store location in Ontario will join in a nationwide effort headed by SportClips, Inc.,  to help raise money for soldiers wanting to reach their families this season.

Last year more than 600 stores participated in raising $90,000, enough for 800,000 minutes of talk time, this year the goal is to raise $100,000 said Catherine Guiterrez, spokeswoman for SportClips, Inc.

"We've done this because our founder is a veteran and he feels it is really important to him," she said.

The collection will go on until Nov. 25, until then residents of the Inland Empire can stop by the Ontario store location and donate.
