Interjet considering LA/Ontario as site

It came to my attention that the City of Ontario and Los Angeles World Airports is holding a reception later on this week in hopes of convicing Interjet, one of Mexico's low-cost airlines, to fly out of LA/Ontario International Airport.

The letter I received said Interjet "is exploring the possibility of launching new nonstop service from LA/Ontario to Mexico. Service could begin this year.

The news is significant for the airport who loss 30 percent of their flights last year with the departure of Jet Blue and Express Jet, as well as Southwest Airlines.

The cuts are on top of Express Jet 's announcement in July that it will pull the plug on 22 flights Sept. 1, and Jet Blue 's announcement of ending its only flight out of Ontario International on Sept. 2.
