As one of the last retail commercial jewels in the city, the 250-acre Meredith property just north of the 10 Freeway could garner a project comparable to Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga or the Ontario Mills Mall.
Being that I'm a fan of the Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez, my colleague Wes Woods decided to send me a link to an ESPN article that talked about the former USC player.
In the article, they also mentioned Ontario native, Anthony Munoz and his role as a Latino in pro football.
"Arguably the most well-known Latino football player is offensive lineman Anthony Muñoz," the ESPN article states.

Mark Sanchez and football's lost past

Jets' Sanchez might bring light to the overlooked history of Hispanics in pro football.

Stephen P. Deitsch, a Best Best & Krieger attorney who serves as city attorney for four California cities, was elected this month to chair the Public Law Section of the State Bar of California.
During his one-year term as chair, Deitsch will guide the executive committee through policy decisions affecting the 1,400-member section comprised of attorneys who serve cities, counties, school districts and other public agencies.
His focus, he said, will be on continuing to provide much-needed resources for public law attorneys through continuing education and the publication of the Public Law Journal, which documents important developments in the field.
Deitsch, a BB&K partner who specializes in municipal and redevelopment law, has been with the firm since 1989 and is based in the Ontario office. He serves as city attorney for Indian Wells, Big Bear Lake, Arcadia and Shafter. He also serves as redevelopment counsel for those four cities as well as Fontana, Ontario and Westminster.
"Public law work is something we care deeply about as a firm and we are honored that one of our attorneys has been chosen for such an esteemed position," said Richard T. Egger, BB&K managing partner of the Ontario office.
"Steve's legal expertise will serve the position well," Egger added.
The Public Law Section works to ensure that laws affecting the public sector are enacted and implemented in a manner that is clear, effective and serves the public interest. The section also identifies and analyzes the unique ethical issues affecting public lawyers.
Deitsch, of Upland, became the committee chair on Sept. 11 at the State Bar's annual convention in San Diego. Previously, he was the committee's vice chair and he served as editor of the Public Law Journal.

Annual Walk for the Hungry

This is a release about an upcoming event:

On Oct. 11,  Inland Valley Hope Partners will hold its 36th Annual Walk for the Hungry.  The 5K event begins and ends at Chaffey High School, 1245 N. Euclid in Ontario and takes the walkers on a route though the Historic College District.  Participants will have collected sponsorships from their family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, teachers and many others, in support of Hope Partners' work which includes: four local food pantries (Ontario, Pomona, Claremont and San Dimas), family residential emergency shelter, and a weekly farmers' market in Pomona.  Hope Partners provides food for more than 800,000 meals annually as well as other services to help empower those who are most in need of help.  With the down turn in the economy, more families come in to the food pantries than before, which makes the Walk this year more critical than ever.

The Walk for the Hungry is a family-oriented event, with In N Out Burgers, and free activities including music, balloons, popcorn, and face painting.  The "Walk" registration will begin at noon, with the Walkers hitting the trail at 1 pm.  Whether you participate in the actual walk, or just come to show your support, please join us for a great afternoon of family fun and, at the same time, help provide ongoing services for the many who need the simple basics of food and shelter.

Admission is free, but non-perishable food items will be collected for stocking the food banks.

Inland Valley Hope Partners serves the communities of Chino, Chino Hills, Claremont, Diamond Bar, La Verne, Montclair, Mt. Baldy, Ontario, Pomona, Rancho Cucamonga, San Dimas, Upland, and Walnut.

Bellevue Memorial Park , which uses about 160,000 gallons a water a day, has started using recycled water to irrigate their lawns and gardens.
The 78 acre Ontario cemetery began using the recycled water last month.
The Ontario Cemetery Association's Board of Trustees, who oversee Bellevue, began planning for the recycled water project more than 2 ½ years ago.
The move to use recycled water is part of Bellevue's commitment to save energy and to better utilize resources. The cemetery has reduced it's impact on landfills by mulching it's lawn clippings for the last 30 years, and by generating electricity through a solar power system that generates approximately 75 percent of the power consumed by the cemetery.

Turn in your old tires

| | Comments (0) |

Sorry, you won't get any cash for turning in old tires but at least you get rid of them. The city encourages residents to discard tires at its Public Works Agency. All tires collected will be reused or recycled. They will, however, not be taking tires this Monday because it is a holiday.
Labor day closures also include City Hall, the Ontario Senior Center and Ontario Chamber of Commerce. They will all reopen on Tuesday.
For more information about recycling tires call (909) 395-2600. The Public Works Agency is located at 1425 South Bon View Avenue.

In store signing at the Mills

So I was perusing the Ontario Mills Mall earlier this week when I came across an advertisement that caught my attention. SecondSpin.com, which is a new used CD/DVD store at the mall, was promoting an in store performance by Boys Like Girls (yes that is the band's name) on Monday.
The band is promoting their new CD, Love Drunk, and anyone who purchases it that day will receive a wristband and the chance to see the band perform and get their autograph.
This all begins at 6 p.m.
