Support local Troops

Chairman and Fourth District Supervisor Gary Ovitt would like to remind everyone that the County's 2009 "Support Our Troops and Their Families" collection drive continues until December 7, 2009. 

"Our county is proud of the men and women that serve our nation in the military and this collection drive is a small way to show our gratitude," Ovitt said.  "When you go shopping for Christmas gifts for your friends and family, please think about picking up something extra for the families of our troops.  There are dozens of collection sites around San Bernardino County where you can drop off your donation." 

This is the third year that the County has run a collection drive for the families of troops that have been deployed overseas.  Items that are suggested to be donated are gift cards, children's toys, books, small electronics, and pre-paid phone cards.  It has been a tremendous success in the past.  The County of San Bernardino Department of Veterans Affairs administers the collection drive. 

"Some of the families that received gifts last year said that this was one of the bright spots in their holidays," said Bill Moseley Director of Veterans Affairs for San Bernardino County.  "Our residents have been so generous in the past and I am confident that we can surpass the amount collected last year."  

The collection sites in the Fourth District are:  Supervisor Gary Ovitt's Chino Hills office located at 14010 City Center Drive, Chino Hills, the James S. Thalman Chino Hills Branch Library located at 14020 City Center Drive in Chino Hills, the Chino Branch Library located at 13180 Central Ave. in Chino, and the Montclair Branch Library located at 9955 Fremont Ave. in Montclair.  For donation information, please call the County of San Bernardino Department of Veterans Affairs at (909) 387-5516.
