New Youth Committee
The 61st Assembly District Youth Advisory Committee is a new youth program for area students created by Assemblymember Norma Torres, D-Ontario.
The committee is open to high school juniors that are in the assemblymember's district of Chino, Montclair, Ontario and Pomona. The members of the committee will give Torres their input about youth related issues as well have an opportunity to learn about the legislative process.
The Youth Advisory Committee members will meet on a regular basis and will also have the opportunity to participate in community events, develop a community service project, volunteer in the district office and attend outreach and legislative events.
At the end of their term, students will have the opportunity to travel to the State Capitol to attend a legislative hearing and/or Floor session, tour the State Capitol, meet with other state representatives and be recognized for their participation.
To apply, a student must live and attend high school in the 61st District.
An application can be obtained by contacting Assemblymember Torres' District Office at (909) 984-7741.
Applications will be reviewed by a committee who will select youth for interviews. Torres will make the final appointment of Committee members.
