Torres' Assembly bill on 9-1-1 approved
A release from Assemblymember Norma Torres on AB 424:
Assembly Bill 424 by Assemblymember Norma J. Torres (D - Pomona) was approved Wednesday by the State Assembly. The bill will direct the state's Chief Information Officer to develop and manage a public education campaign with the input from stakeholders, law enforcement and public safety agencies. Currently the 9-1-1 system is overburdened with unnecessary calls of non-emergency nature that could be better handled by existing county and city resources such as 3-1-1, 2-1-1 and nonprofit organizations such as We Tip.
The legislation is an important component of Assemblymember Torres' legislative package to improve the state's 9-1-1 emergency system.
"Improving the 9-1-1 system is an objective I am committed to achieving," stated Torres, a 9-1-1 dispatcher who is currently on leave to serve in the State Assembly. She continued by stating that the necessary changes "will require a multi-year effort on several fronts, including improving the public's understanding of the 9-1-1 system so that operators and dispatchers are receiving true emergency calls."
AB 424 will now be referred to the State Senate for consideration and approval.

It seems like Bud Selig's stupitidity will continue to haunt baseball. The trial is set for April 5. Another baseball season starts with PEDs as a major topic of conversation. Great idea the Mitchelll report. It was supposed to put the Seroid issue behind us but it seems to have put it front and center, year after year......:-)
