Foreclosure prevention workshop set for Oct. 13
Assemblywoman Norma Torres, D-Ontario, in collaboration with the city of Ontario, the California Housing Finance Agency and the Housing Opportunities Collaborative of the Inland Empire Wednesday will hold a foreclosure prevention workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 at the De Anza Community Center, 1405 S. Fern Ave.
The San Bernardino-Ontario region has one of the worst foreclosure rates in the state, according to RealtyTrac.
Homeowners will be shown options that may be available to them to remain in their homes and how they can avoid loan modification scams.
Information will be provided to homeowners about the new Keep Your Home programs, which are federally funded with $700 million. The programs are aimed at preserving homeownership and stabilizing local housing markets.
In addition, the Housing Opportunities Collaborative will introduce the new Loan Modification Scam Alert Campaign to help homeowners spot and report fraud. Homeowners can make appointments with home loan counselors to receive individual counseling at a later date.
Registration for the event will start at 8:45 a.m.
